It flings its gauntlet down | B |
And bids us if we seek for gold | A |
And glory and renown | B |
To come and take them from its store | C |
It will not meekly hand them o'er | D |

And nobly must we dare | F |
Its gold is tawdry when we cheat | E |
Its fame a bitter snare | F |
If it be stolen from life's clutch | G |
Men must be true to prosper much | G |

Life is a challenge and its laws | H |
Are rigid ones and stern | I |
The splendid joy of real applause | H |
Each man must nobly earn | I |
It makes us win its jewels rare | F |
But gives us paste if we're unfair | F |
