Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCBBDD EEFFGGEEHH BBGGHHIIBB JJFFBBGGDD

GLAD to be back home againA
Where abide the friendly menA
Glad to see the same old scenesB
And the little house that meansB
All the joys the soul has treasuredC
Glad to be where smiles aren't measuredC
Where I've blended with the gladnessB
All the heart has known of sadnessB
Where some long familiar steepleD
Marks my town of friendly peopleD
-
Though it's fun to go a strayingE
Where the bands are nightly playingE
And the throngs of men and womenF
Drain the cup of pleasure brimmin'F
I am glad when it is overG
That I've ceased to play the RoverG
And when once the train starts chuggingE
Towards the children I'll be huggingE
All my thoughts and dreams are set thereH
Fast enough I cannot get thereH
-
Guess I wasn't meant for bright lightsB
For the blaze of red and white lightsB
For the throngs that seem to smotherG
In their selfishness each otherG
For whenever I've been down thereH
Tramped the noisy blatant town thereH
Always in a week I've startedI
Yearning hungering heavy heartedI
For the home town and its spacesB
Lit by fine and friendly facesB
-
Like to be where men about meJ
Do not look on me to doubt meJ
Where I know the men and womenF
Know why tears some eyes are dimmin'F
Know the good folks an' the bad folksB
An' the glad folks an' the sad folksB
Where we live with one anotherG
Meanin' something to each otherG
An' I'm glad to see the steepleD
Where the crowds aren't merely peopleD
