'Twas not enough to cleanse his feet | B |
Of dirt they'd gathered in the street | B |
He stood and dusted off his mind | C |
And left all trace of care behind | C |
'In here I will not take ' said he | D |
'The stains the day has brought to me | D |

'Beyond this door shall never go | E |
The burdens that are mine to know | E |
The day is done and here I leave | F |
The petty things that vex and grieve | F |
What clings to me of hate and sin | G |
To them I will not carry in | G |
Only the good shall go with me | D |
For their devoted eyes to see | D |

'I will not burden them with cares | H |
Nor track the home with grim affairs | H |
I will not at my table sit | I |
With soul unclean and mind unfit | I |
Beyond this door I will not take | J |
The outward signs of inward ache | J |
I will not take a dreary mind | C |

The mud that's incident to life | K |

The selfish humors and the mean | M |
