At Sugar Camp Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL MNMNOPOP AQAQIKIK

At Sugar Camp the cook is kindA
And laughs the laugh we knew as boysB
And there we slip away and findA
Awaiting us the old time joysB
The catbird calls the selfsame wayC
She used to in the long agoD
And there's a chorus all the dayC
Of songsters it is good to knowD
-
The killdeer in the distance criesE
The thrasher in her garb of brownF
From tree to tree in gladness fliesE
Forgotten is the world's renownF
Forgotten are the years we've knownG
At Sugar Camp there are no menH
We've ceased to strive for things to ownG
We're in the woods as boys againH
-
Our pride is in the strength of treesI
Our pomp the pomp of living thingsJ
Our ears are tuned to melodiesI
That every feathered songster singsJ
At Sugar Camp our noonday mealK
Is eaten in the open airL
Where through the leaves the sunbeams stealK
And simple is our bill of fareL
-
At Sugar Camp in peace we dwellM
And none is boastful of himselfN
None plots to gain with shot and shellM
His neighbor's bit of land or pelfN
The roar of cannon isn't heardO
There stilled is money's tempting voiceP
Someone detects a new come birdO
And at her presence all rejoiceP
-
At Sugar Camp the cook is kindA
His steak is broiling o'er the coalsQ
And in its sputtering we findA
Sweet harmony for tired soulsQ
There sheltered by the friendly treesI
As boys we sit to eat our mealK
And brothers to the birds and beesI
We hold communion with the realK
