We've been out to Pelletier'sA
Brushing off the stain of yearsA
Quitting all the moods of menB
And been boys and girls againB
We have romped through orchards blazingC
Petted ponies gently grazingC
Hidden in the hayloft's spacesA
And the queerest sort of placesA
That are lost and it's a pityD
To the youngsters in the cityD
And the hired men have let usA
Drive their teams and stopped to get usA
Apples from the trees and lingeredE
While a cow's cool nose we fingeredE
And they told us all about herF
And her grandpa who was stouterF
We've been out to Pelletier'sA
Watching horses raise their earsA
And their joyous whinnies hearingC
When the man with oats was nearingC
We've been climbing trees an' fencesA
Never minding consequencesA
And we helped the man to curryF
The fat ponies' sides so furryF
And we saw a squirrel takingC
Walnuts to the nest he's makingC
Storing them for winter when heF
Can't get out to hunt for anyF
And we watched the turkeys growingC
Big and fat and never knowingC
That the reason they were livingC
Is to die for our ThanksgivingC
We've been out to Pelletier'sA
Brushing off the stain of yearsA
We were kids set free from shammingC
And the city's awful crammingC
And the clamor and the bustleG
And the fearful rush and hustleG
Out of doors with room to race inH
And broad acres soft to chase inH
We just stretched our souls and let themI
Drop the petty cares that fret themI
Left our narrow thoughts behind usA
Loosed the selfish traits that bind usA
And were wholesomer and plainerF
Simpler kinder folks and sanerF
And at night said 'It's a pityF
Mortals ever built a city 'J
