At Pelletier's Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCAADDAAEEFFAACC AAFFCCFFCCCCAACCGGHH IIAAFFFJWe've been out to Pelletier's | A |
Brushing off the stain of years | A |
Quitting all the moods of men | B |
And been boys and girls again | B |
We have romped through orchards blazing | C |
Petted ponies gently grazing | C |
Hidden in the hayloft's spaces | A |
And the queerest sort of places | A |
That are lost and it's a pity | D |
To the youngsters in the city | D |
And the hired men have let us | A |
Drive their teams and stopped to get us | A |
Apples from the trees and lingered | E |
While a cow's cool nose we fingered | E |
And they told us all about her | F |
And her grandpa who was stouter | F |
We've been out to Pelletier's | A |
Watching horses raise their ears | A |
And their joyous whinnies hearing | C |
When the man with oats was nearing | C |
We've been climbing trees an' fences | A |
Never minding consequences | A |
And we helped the man to curry | F |
The fat ponies' sides so furry | F |
And we saw a squirrel taking | C |
Walnuts to the nest he's making | C |
Storing them for winter when he | F |
Can't get out to hunt for any | F |
And we watched the turkeys growing | C |
Big and fat and never knowing | C |
That the reason they were living | C |
Is to die for our Thanksgiving | C |
We've been out to Pelletier's | A |
Brushing off the stain of years | A |
We were kids set free from shamming | C |
And the city's awful cramming | C |
And the clamor and the bustle | G |
And the fearful rush and hustle | G |
Out of doors with room to race in | H |
And broad acres soft to chase in | H |
We just stretched our souls and let them | I |
Drop the petty cares that fret them | I |
Left our narrow thoughts behind us | A |
Loosed the selfish traits that bind us | A |
And were wholesomer and plainer | F |
Simpler kinder folks and saner | F |
And at night said 'It's a pity | F |
Mortals ever built a city ' | J |
