Ambition Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGD HIHIJDJD KLKLEME

If you would rise above the throngA
And seek the crown of fameB
You must do more than drift alongA
And merely play the gameB
Whatever path your feet may treadC
Whatever be your questD
The only way to get aheadC
Is striving for the bestD
-
'Tis not enough to wish to doE
A day's toil fairly wellF
If you would rise to glory youE
Must hunger to excelF
The boy who has the proper stuffG
Goes into every testD
Not seeking to be 'good enough '-
But eager to be 'best '-
-
Aim high And though you fail todayH
And may tomorrow failI
Keep pounding steadily awayH
Some day you'll hit the nailI
At no half way mark ever pauseJ
n smug content to restD
Who would win honor and applauseJ
Must want to be the bestD
-
The best must be your aim in lifeK
The best in sport or workL
Success in any form of strifeK
Falls never to the shirkL
The crowns of leadership are fewE
The followers move in throngsM
If you would be a leader youE
Must shun the 'drift alongs '-
