Alone Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDC EFFEGHHG IJJIAKKA

Strange thoughts come to the man aloneA
'Tis then if ever he talks with GodB
And views himself as a single clodB
In the soil of life where the souls are grownA
'Tis then he questions the why and whereC
The start and end of his years and daysD
And what is blame and what is praiseD
And what is ugly and what is fairC
-
When a man has drawn from the busy throngE
To the sweet retreat of the silent hoursF
Low voices whisper of higher powersF
He catches the strain of some far off songE
And the sham fades out and his eyes can seeG
Not the man he is in the day's hot strifeH
And the greed and grind of a selfish lifeH
But the soul of the man he is to beG
-
He feels the throbbing of life divineI
And catches a glimpse of the greater planJ
He questions the purpose and work of manJ
In the hours of silence his mind grows fineI
He seeks to learn what is kept unknownA
He turns from self and its garb of clayK
And dwells on the soul and the higher wayK
Strange thoughts come when a man's aloneA
