There are times a woman's loveB
Fer a man stands out I guessC
More n usual like as whenD
Sickness comes or else distressC
But I reckon that it shinesE
Brighter than a taller dipF
When a man is goin' awayG
An' she comes t' pack his gripF
-
'Pears t' me she seems t' thinkH
More about his comforts thenD
Puts in slippers jes' as thoughI
They were worn by traveling menD
Fusses round an' round th' roomJ
Hopin' maybe that she'll seeK
Somethin' that perhaps he'll needL
Jes' as thoughtful as can beK
-
Packs in heavy underwearM
Fearin' that it may get coldN
It is most remarkableO
What a common grip will holdN
When a woman fills it upP
Things fer sunshine an' fer rainQ
Pills fer every kind of illsR
Liniment fer every painQ
-
Seen her pack that grip o' mineS
Hundred times I guess an' moreT
Heard her sigh while doin' itU
Kneelin' on th' bedroom floorT
An' I never went awayG
On the shortest kind o' tripF
Without feelin' that her heartV
Had been packed inside my gripF
