A Good Name Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFDDGG EEHHIIJJ AAKKJJLL

Men talk too much of gold and fameA
And not enough about a nameA
And yet a good name's better farB
Than all earth's glistening jewels areB
Who holds his name above all priceC
And chooses every sacrificeC
To keep his earthly record clearD
Can face the world without a fearD
-
Who never cheats nor lies for gainE
A poor man may perhaps remainE
Yet when at night he goes to restF
No little voice within his breastF
Disturbs his slumber Conscience clearD
He falls asleep with naught to fearD
And when he wakes the world to faceG
He is not tainted by disgraceG
-
Who keeps his name without a stainE
Wears no man's brand and no man's chainE
He need not fear to speak his mindH
In dread of what the world may findH
He then is master of his willI
None may command him to be stillI
Nor force him when he would stand fastJ
To flinch before his hidden pastJ
-
Not all the gold that men may claimA
Can cover up a deed of shameA
Not all the fame of victory sweetK
Can free the man who played the cheatK
He lives a slave unto the lastJ
Unto the shame that mars his pastJ
He only freedom here may ownL
Whose name a stain has never knownL
