Rhyme Scheme: ABCDC EFDGD HHIJH HKKLE EHM

From our cradleA
We heard them cantillate the axiomB
Education is the key to successC
They meant well truthfullyD
For they dreaded our end in a messC
-
In our ga v le Togo and kamegodiE
We trekked to ab dzokpoF
In a quest to get the keyD
On an empty stomachG
We chanted ABCs and s in high keyD
-
Davi Mansa sold her GTP clothsH
To get us quills and parchmentsH
We engaged in indentured labourI
To stash some cashJ
Cash that only paid debtsH
-
The teachers' whip didn't break usH
It kissed our buttocks almost alwayK
We did not give up anywayK
Until we were given the sheepskinL
Hurray the dream is madeE
-
Now the key we've gotE
And here we are on the streetsH
Where is the doorM
