The Ghost's Story Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIJI KLJL JJMJ

All my life long I heard the stepA
Of some one I would knowB
Break softly in upon my daysC
And lightly come and goB
-
A foot so brisk I said must bearD
A heart that's clean and clearE
If that companion blithe would comeF
I should be happy hereG
-
But though I waited long and wellH
He never came at allI
I grew aweary of the voidJ
Even of the light foot fallI
-
From loneliness to lonelinessK
I felt my spirit gropeL
At last I knew the uttermostJ
The loneliness of hopeL
-
And just upon the border landJ
Where flesh and spirit partJ
I knew the secret foot fall wasM
The beating of my heartJ
