Permanence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHI JKJK LMLM NONO

Set within a desert loneA
Circled by an arid seaB
Stands a figure carved in stoneA
Where a fountain used to beB
-
Two abraded pleading handsC
Held below a shapeless mouthD
Human like the fragment standsC
Tortured by perpetual drouthD
-
Once the form was drenched with sprayE
Deluged with the rainbow flushesF
Surplus water dashed awayE
To the lotus and the rushesG
-
Time was clothed in rippling fashionH
Opulence of light and airI
Beauty changing into passionH
Every hour and everywhereI
-
And the yearning of that raceJ
Was for something deep and tenderK
Life replete with power with graceJ
Touched with vision and with splendourK
-
Now no rain dissolves and coolsL
Dew is even as a dreamM
The enticing far off poolsL
In a mirage only seemM
-
All the traces that remainN
Of the longings of that landO
Are two hands that plead in vainN
Filled with burning sandO
