Off Riviere Du Loup Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHI JKJK LMLM NFNF

O ship incoming from the seaA
With all your cloudy tower of sailB
Dashing the water to the leeA
And leaning grandly to the galeB
-
The sunset pageant in the westC
Has filled your canvas curves with roseD
And jeweled every toppling crestC
That crashes into silver snowsD
-
You know the joy of coming homeE
After long leagues to France or SpainF
You feel the clear Canadian foamE
And the gulf water heave againG
-
Between these somber purple hillsH
That cool the sunset's molten barsI
You will go on as the wind willsH
Beneath the river's roof of starsI
-
You will toss onward toward the lightsJ
That spangle over the lonely pierK
By hamlets glimmering on the heightsJ
By level islands black and clearK
-
You will go on beyond the tideL
Through brimming plains of olive sedgeM
Through paler shadows light and wideL
The rapids piled along the ledgeM
-
At evening off some reedy bayN
You will swing slowly on your chainF
And catch the scent of dewy hayN
Soft blowing from the pleasant plainF
