New Year's Night, 1916 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDB EFGHIJKLMNM BCOHMFPMDMPMNM

The Earth moans in her sleepA
Like an old motherB
Whose sons have gone to the warC
Who weeps silently in her heartD
Till dreams comfort herB
-
The Earth tossesE
As if she would shake off humanityF
A burden too heavy to be borneG
And free of the pest of intolerable menH
Spin with woods and watersI
Joyously in the clear heavensJ
In the beautiful cool rainsK
Bearing gladly the dumb animalsL
And sleep when the time comesM
Glistening in the remains of sunlightN
With marmoreal innocencyM
-
Be comforted old motherB
Whose sons have gone to the warC
And be assured O EarthO
Of your burden of passionate menH
For without them who would dream the dreamsM
That encompass you with gloryF
Who would gather your youthP
And store it in the jar of remembranceM
Who would comfort your old heartD
With tales told of the heroesM
Who would cover your face with the cereclothP
All rustling with starsM
And mourn in the ashes of sunlightN
Mourn your marmoreal innocencyM
