To give a harbour to their timorous fears | B |
To take them as the dry earth takes the rain | C |
As the dark wood the warm wind from the plain | C |
Yet their own tears remain unshed | D |
Their own tumultuous fears unsaid | D |
And seeming steadfast as the forest and the earth | E |
Shaken are they with pain | C |
They cry for voice as earth might cry for the sea | F |
Or the wood for consuming fire | G |
Unanswered they remain | C |
Subject to the sorrows of women utterly | F |
Heart and mind | D |
Subject as the dry earth to the rain | C |
Or the dark wood to the wind | D |
