Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GAGA CCCC CHCH

ALAS for the voyage O High King of HeavenA
Enjoined upon meB
For that I on the red plain of bloody CooldrevinA
Was present to seeB
-
How happy the son is of Dima no sorrowC
For him is designedD
He is having this hour round his own hill in DurrowC
The wish of his mindD
-
The sounds of the winds in the elms like strings ofE
A harp being playedF
The note of a blackbird that claps with the wings ofE
Delight in the shadeF
-
With him in Ros Grencha the cattle are lowingG
At earliest dawnA
On the brink of the summer the pigeons are cooingG
And doves in the lawnA
-
Three things am I leaving behind me the veryC
Most dear that I knowC
Tir Leedach I m leaving and Durrow and DerryC
Alas I must goC
-
Yet my visit and feasting with Comgall have eased meC
At Cainneach s right handH
And all but thy government Eir have pleased meC
Thou waterful landH
