The Skeleton In The Cupboard Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCD EFGHIID JJKKLLD BBMMGGD

Just this one day in all the yearA
Let all be one let all be dearA
Wife husband child in fond embraceB
And thrust the phantom from its placeB
No bitter words no frowning browC
Disturb the Christmas festal nowC
The skeleton's behind the doorD
-
Nor let the child with looks askanceE
Find out its sad inheritanceF
From souls that held no happinessG
Of home where love is seldom guestH
But in his coming years retainI
This one sweet night that had no painI
The skeleton's behind the doorD
-
In vain you raise the wassail bowlJ
And pledge your passion soul to soulJ
You hear the sweet bells ring in rhymeK
You wreath the room for Christmas timeK
In vain The solemn silence fallsL
The death watch ticks within the wallsL
The skeleton taps on the doorD
-
Then let him back into his placeB
Let us sit out the old disgraceB
Nor seek the phantom now to layM
That haunted us through every dayM
For plainer is the ghost uselessG
Is this pretence of happinessG
The skeleton taps on the doorD
