The Fair Little Maiden Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHAH IJKL MNKN OPKP QLKL

There is one at the door Wolfe O'DriscollA
At the door who is bidding you comeB
Who is he that wakes me in the darknessC
Calling when all the world's dumbB
-
Six horses has he to his carriageD
Six horses blacker than the nightE
And their twelve red eyes in the shadowsF
Twelve lamps he carries for his lightE
-
And his coach is a coffin black and mouldyG
A huge black coffin open wideH
He asks for your soul Wolfe O'DriscollA
Who is calling at the door outsideH
-
Who let him thro' the gates of my gardensI
Where stronger bolts have never beenJ
'Twas the father of the fair little maidenK
You drove to her grave so greenL
-
And who let him pass through the courtyardM
By loosening the bar and the chainN
Oh who but the brother of the maidenK
Who lies in the cold and the rainN
-
Then who drew the bolts at the portalO
And into my house bade him goP
She the mother of the poor young maidenK
Who lies in her youth so lowP
-
Who stands that he dare not enterQ
The door of my chamber betweenL
O the ghost of the fair little maidenK
Who lies in the churchyard greenL
