Sanctuary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDD EFCFDD CGHGDD IBJBDD

Neighbour for pity a hound cries on your stepsA
With pleading eyes with sore and weary feetB
Neighbour your pity a poor beast doth imploreC
Hunger and cold are busy in the streetB
Then neighbour pause 'tis no good work you doD
Off from my door I have no place for youD
-
Neighbour your mercy A heart of love is hereE
Within this weary body love is rareF
And seldom comes to cry before our doorC
Then open wide and take your little shareF
Love pleads to be your servant leal and trueD
Off from my step I have no place for youD
-
From step to step abused from door to doorC
Whipped by the wind and beaten by the rainG
With hunger at his throat he passes onH
Yet one who follows shares the creature's painG
One follows Neighbour stop unless you rueD
Off from my step I have no place for youD
-
The gentle Christ had heard His crying houndI
And left His throne to track the weary feetB
He follows though unseen with bleeding heartJ
Refused from door to door from street to streetB
Yes one who follows had refusal tooD
Off from my door I have no place for youD
