ALICE Alice little AliceA
My new christened baby AliceA
Can there ever rhymes be foundB
To express my wishes for theeC
In a silvery flowing worthyC
Of that silvery soundB
Bonnie Alice Lady AliceA
Sure this sweetest name must beC
A true omen to thee AliceA
Of a life's long melodyC
-
Alice Alice little AliceA
Mayst thou prove a golden chaliceD
Filled with holiness like wineE
With rich blessings running o'erF
Yet replenished evermoreG
From a fount divineE
Alice Alice little AliceA
When this future comes to theeC
In thy young life's brimming chaliceD
Keep some drops of balm for meC
-
Alice Alice little AliceA
Mayst thou grow a goodly palaceA
Fitly framed from roof to floorsH
Pure unto the inmost centreF
While high thoughts like angels enterF
At the open doorsH
Alice Alice little AliceA
When this beauteous sight I seeC
In thy woman heart's wide palaceA
Keep one nook of love for meC
-
Alice Alice little AliceA
Sure the verse halts out of maliceA
To the thoughts it feebly bearsI
And thy name's soft echoes rangingJ
From quaint rhyme to rhyme are changingJ
Into silent prayersI
God be with thee little AliceA
Of His bounteousness may HeC
Fill the chalice build the palaceA
Here unto eternityC
