The Unfinished Book Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDDEE FGFGHHIJKL MNMNOOPPQR STSUVVWWXX

TAKE it reader idly passingA
This like other idle linesB
Take it critic great at classingA
Subtle genius and its signsB
But O reader be thou dumbC
Critic let no sharp wit comeC
For the hand that wrote and blurredD
Will not write another wordD
And the soul you scorn or prizeE
Now than angels is more wiseE
-
Take it heart of man or womanF
This unfinished broken strainG
Whether it be poor or commonF
Or the noblest work of brainG
Let that good heart only sitH
Now in judgment over itH
Tenderly as we would readI
Any one of any creedJ
Any churchyard passing byK
'Sacred to the MemoryL
-
Wholly sacred even as lingersM
Final word or last look castN
Or last clasp of life warm fingersM
Which we knew not was the lastN
Or as we apart do layO
The day after funeral dayO
Their dear relics great and smallP
Who need nothing yet win allP
All the best we had and haveQ
Buried in one silent graveR
-
All our highest aspirationsS
And our closest love of lovesT
Our most secret resignationsS
Our best work that man approvesU
Yet which jealously we keepV
In our mute heart's deepest deepV
So of this poor broken songW
Let no echoes here prolongW
For the singer's voice is knownX
In the heaven of heavens aloneX
