The Path Through The Snow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEFCC GHIIC JJKKCC LLMNCC OOPPCC

BARE and sunshiny bright and bleakA
Rounded cold as a dead maid's cheekA
Folded white as a sinner's shroudB
Or wandering angel's robes of cloudB
Well I know well I knowC
Over the fields the path through the snowC
-
Narrow and rough it lies betweenD
Wastes where the wind sweeps biting keenD
Every step of the slippery roadE
Marks where some weary foot has trodF
Who'll go who'll goC
After the rest on the path through the snowC
-
They who would tread it must walk aloneG
Silent and steadfast one by oneH
Dearest to dearest can only sayI
'My heart I'll follow thee all the wayI
As we go as we goC
Each after each on this path through the snow '-
-
It may be under that western hazeJ
Lurks the omen of brighter daysJ
That each sentinel tree is quiveringK
Deep at its core with the sap of springK
And while we go while we goC
Green grass blades pierce thro' the glittering snowC
-
It may be the unknown path will tendL
Never to any earthly endL
Die with the dying day obscureM
And never lead to a human doorN
That none know who did goC
Patiently once on this path through the snowC
-
No matter no matter the path shines plainO
These pure snow crystals will deaden painO
Above like stars in the deep blue darkP
Eyes that love us look down and markP
Let us go let us goC
Whither heaven leads in the path thro' the snowC
