Rounded cold as a dead maid's cheek | A |
Folded white as a sinner's shroud | B |

Well I know well I know | C |
Over the fields the path through the snow | C |
- | |
Narrow and rough it lies between | D |
Wastes where the wind sweeps biting keen | D |
Every step of the slippery road | E |
Marks where some weary foot has trod | F |
Who'll go who'll go | C |
After the rest on the path through the snow | C |
- | |
They who would tread it must walk alone | G |
Silent and steadfast one by one | H |
Dearest to dearest can only say | I |
'My heart I'll follow thee all the way | I |
As we go as we go | C |
Each after each on this path through the snow ' | - |
- | |
It may be under that western haze | J |
Lurks the omen of brighter days | J |
That each sentinel tree is quivering | K |
Deep at its core with the sap of spring | K |
And while we go while we go | C |
Green grass blades pierce thro' the glittering snow | C |
- | |
It may be the unknown path will tend | L |
Never to any earthly end | L |
Die with the dying day obscure | M |
And never lead to a human door | N |
That none know who did go | C |
Patiently once on this path through the snow | C |
- | |
No matter no matter the path shines plain | O |
These pure snow crystals will deaden pain | O |
Above like stars in the deep blue dark | P |
Eyes that love us look down and mark | P |
Let us go let us go | C |
Whither heaven leads in the path thro' the snow | C |
