The House Of Clay Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDCDAEFFEGHGHFEAA EIJIJAEKKBLMLMNE

THERE was a house a house of clayA
Wherein the inmate sat all dayA
Merry and poorB
For Hope sat with her heart to heartC
Fond and kind fond and kindD
Vowing he never would departC
Till all at once he changed his mindD
Sweetheart good by He slipped awayA
And shut the doorE
But Love came past and looking inF
With smile that pierced like sunbeam thinF
Through wall roof floorE
Stood in the midst of that poor roomG
Grand and fair grand and fairH
Making a glory out of gloomG
Till at the window mocked cruel CareH
Love sighed All lose and nothing winF
He shut the doorE
Then o'er the close barred house of clayA
Kind clematis and woodbine gayA
Crept more and moreE
And bees hummed merrily outsideI
Loud and strong loud and strongJ
The inner silentness to hideI
The patient silence all day longJ
Till evening touched with finger grayA
The bolted doorE
Most like the next step passing byK
Will be the Angel's whose calm eyeK
Marks rich marks poorB
Who fearing not at any gateL
Stands and calls stands and callsM
At which the inmate opens straightL
Whom ere the crumbling clay house fallsM
He takes in kind arms silentlyN
And shuts the doorE
