A MEDITATION FOR ALLA
-
SO Christmas is here againB
While the house sleeps quiet as deathC
'Neath the midnight moon comes the Waits' shrill tuneD
And we listen and hold our breathC
-
The Christmas that never wasE
On this foggy November airF
With clear pale gleam like the ghost of a dreamG
It is painted everywhereF
-
The Christmas that might have beenH
It is borne in the far off soundI
Down the empty street with the tread of feetJ
That lie silent undergroundI
-
The Christmas that yet may beK
Like the Bethlehem star leads kindL
Yet our life slips past hour by hour fast fastM
Few before and many behindL
-
The Christmas we have and holdN
With a tremulous tender strainO
Half joy half fears Be the psalm of the yearsP
'Grief passes blessings remain '-
-
The Christmas that sure will comeQ
Let us think of at fireside fairF
When church bells sound o'er one small green moundI
Which the neighbors pass to prayerF
-
The Christmas that God will giveR
Long after all these are o'erS
When is day nor night for the LAMB is our LightT
And we live forevermoreS
