Over The Hillside Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DECE FGHG IJKJ DLIL MENE COPO KQRQ KSTS UMVM UWIWFAREWELL In dimmer distance | A |
I watch your figures glide | B |
Across the sunny moorland | C |
The brown hillside | B |
- | |
Each momently up rising | D |
Large dark against the sky | E |
Then in the vacant moorland | C |
Alone sit I | E |
- | |
Within the unknown country | F |
Where your lost footsteps pass | G |
What beauty decks the heavens | H |
And clothes the grass | G |
- | |
Over the mountains shoulder | I |
What glories may unfold | J |
Though I see but the mountain | K |
Bleak bare and cold | J |
- | |
And the white road slow winding | D |
To where each after each | L |
You slipped away ah wither | I |
I cannot reach | L |
- | |
And if I call what answers | M |
Only 'twixt earth and sky | E |
Like wail of parting spirit | N |
The curlew's cry | E |
- | |
- | |
- | |
Yet sunny is the moorland | C |
And soft the pleasant air | O |
And little flowers like blessings | P |
Grow everywhere | O |
- | |
While over all the mountain | K |
Stands sombre calm and still | Q |
Immutable and steadfast | R |
As the One Will | Q |
- | |
Which done on earth in heaven | K |
Eternally confessed | S |
By men and saints and angels | T |
Be ever blest | S |
- | |
Under its infinite shadow | U |
Safer than light of ours | M |
I'll sit me down a little | V |
And gather flowers | M |
- | |
Then I will rise and follow | U |
After the setting day | W |
Without one wish to linger | I |
The appointed way | W |
