Grace Of Clydeside Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAB CBCCB DBDDB EBEEB FBFG HBHHB

AH little Grace of the golden locksA
The hills rise fair on the shores of ClydeB
As the merry waves wear out these rocksA
She wears my heart out glides past and mocksA
But heaven's gate ever stands open wideB
-
The boat goes softly along alongC
Like a river of life glows the amber ClydeB
Her voice floats near me like angel's songC
Ah sweet love death but thy pangs are strongC
Though heaven's gate ever stands open wideB
-
We walk by the shore and the stars shine brightD
But coldly above the solemn ClydeB
Her arm touches mine her laugh rings lightD
ONE hears my silence His merciful nightD
Hides me Can heaven be open wideB
-
I ever was but a dreamer GraceE
As the gray hills watch o'er the sunny ClydeB
Standing afar each in his placeE
I watch your young life's beautiful raceE
Apart until heaven be opened wideB
-
And sometimes when in the twilight balmF
The hills grow purple along the ClydeB
The waves flow softly and very calmF
I hear all nature sing this one psalmG
That 'heaven's gate ever stands open wide '-
-
So happy Grace with your spirit freeH
Laugh on life is sweet on the banks of ClydeB
This is no blame unto thee or meH
Only God saw it could not beH
Therefore His heaven stands open wideB
