An Old Idea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH IJKF LMDBSTREAM of my life dull placid river flow | A |
I have no fear of the ingulfing seas | B |
Neither I look before me nor behind | C |
But lying mute with wave dipped hand float on | D |
- | |
It was not always so My brethren see | E |
This oar stained trembling palm It keeps the sign | F |
Of youth's mad wrestling with the waves that drift | G |
Immutably eternally along | H |
- | |
I would have had them flow through fields and flowers | I |
Giving and taking freshness perfume joy | J |
It winds through here Be silent O my soul | K |
The finger of God's wisdom drew its line | F |
- | |
So I lean back and look up to the stars | L |
And count the ripples circling to the shore | M |
And watch the solemn river rolling on | D |
Until it widen to the open seas | B |
