YE are twa laddies unco glegA
An' blithe an' bonnieB
As licht o' heel as Anster's MegA
Gin ye'd a lassie's favor begA
I' faith she couldna stir a pegA
Ance lookin' on yeB
-
He's a douce wiselike callant JimC
Of wit aye readyB
Cuts aff ane's sentence 't ither's limbC
An' whiles he's daft and whiles he's grimC
But brains wha's got the like o'himC
In's wee bit heidieB
-
Dear laddie wi' the curlin' hairD
Gentlest of onyB
That gies kind looks an' speeches fairD
To dour auld wives as lassies rareD
I ken a score o' lads an' mairD
But nane like JohnnieB
-
And gin ye learn the way to wooE
Hae sweethearts monyB
O laddie never say ye loeF
An' gie fause coin for siller trueE
A lassie's sair heart's naething newE
Mind o' that JohnnieB
-
An' dinna change your luve sae fastB
For ilk face bonnieB
Lest waefu' want track wilfu' wasteB
And a' your youthfu' years lang pastB
Ye get the crookit stick at lastB
Ochone puir JohnnieB
-
But callants baith tak tent and whenB
Bright e'en hae won yeB
Tak each your jo and keep her thenB
Be faithfu' as ye're fond ye kenB
Or gang your gate like honest menB
Young Jim and JohnnieB
-
Sae when auld Time his crookit clawG
Sall lay upon yeB
When Jim your feet that dance sae brawE
Are no the lightest in the ha'H
An' a' your curly haffets fa'I
My winsome JohnnieB
-
May each his ain warm ingle viewI
Cosie as onyB
A gudewife sonsie leal and trueI
O' bonnie dochters not a fewI
An' lads sic lads as ye're the nooB
Dear Jim and JohnnieB
