DOST thou thus love me O thou beautiful | C |
So beautiful that by thy side I seem | D |
Like a great ducky cloud beside a star | E |
Yet thou creep'st o'er its edges and it rests | F |
On its lone path the slow deep hearted cloud | G |
Then opes a rift and lets thee enter in | A |
And with thy beauty shining on its breast | H |
Feels no more its own blackness thou art fair | I |
- | |
Dost thou thus love me O thou all beloved | J |
In whose large store the very meanest coin | A |
Would out buy my whole wealth Yet here thou comest | J |
Like a kind heiress from her purple and down | A |
Uprising who for pity cannot sleep | K |
But goes forth to the stranger at her gate | J |
The beggared stranger at her beauteous gate | J |
And clothes and feeds scarce blest till she has blest | J |
- | |
Dost thou thus love me O thou pure of heart | J |
Whose very looks are prayers What couldst thou see | L |
In this forsaken pool by the yew wood's side | J |
To sit down at its bank and dip thy hand | J |
Saying 'it is so clear ' And lo erelong | M |
Its blackness caught the shimmer of they wings | N |
Its slimes slid downward from thy stainless palm | O |
Its depths grew still that there thy form might rise | P |
- | |
O beautiful O well beloved O rich | Q |
In all that makes my need I lay me down | A |
I' the shadow of thy love and feel no pain | A |
The cloud floats on thee glittering on its breast | J |
The beggar wears thy purple as his own | A |
The noisome waves made calm creep to thy feet | J |
Rejoicing that they yet can image thee | L |
And beyond thee God's heaven thick sown with stars | R |
