Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CBBC DDDD EFFE DGGD HIIH EDDE DJJ

IT is the Christmas timeA
And up and down 'twixt heaven and earthB
In glorious grief and solemn mirthB
The shining angels climbA
-
And unto everythingC
That lives and moves for heaven on earthB
With equal share of grief and mirthB
The shining angels singC
-
'Babes new born undefiledD
In lowly hut or mansion wideD
Sleep safely through this Christmas tideD
When Jesus was a childD
-
'O young men bold and freeE
In peopled town or desert grimF
When ye are tempted like to HimF
'The man Christ Jesus' seeE
-
'Poor mothers with your hoardD
Of endless love and countless painG
Remember all her grief her gainG
The Mother of the LordD
-
'Mourners half blind with woeH
Look up One standeth in this placeI
And by the pity of His faceI
The Man of Sorrows knowH
-
'Wanderers in far countrieE
O think of Him who came forgotD
To His own and they received Him notD
Jesus of GalileeE
-
'O all ye who have trodD
The wine press of affliction layJ
Your hearts before His heart this dayJ
Behold the Christ of God '-
