She took a gude look an' syne says sheD
There's food an' there's firin' gaun to the seaD

Sae she gruppit the branch o' a saughE
An' she kickit aff ane o' her shoonB
An' she stuck oot her fit but it caught in the gateA
An' awa' she went wi' the great muckle skateA

Past cottage an' village an' toonB
She'd an awfu' time astride o' the gateA
Though it seemed to gree fine wi' the great muckle skateA

A fisher was walkin' the deckG
By the licht o' his pipe an' the muneB
When he sees an auld body astride o' a gateA
Come bobbin' alang in the waves wi' a skateA

There's a man overboord cries heD
Ye leear says she I'll droonB
A man on a boord It's a wife on a gateA
It's auld Mistress Mackintosh here wi' a skateA
An' a lum hat wantin' the croonB

Was she nippit to death at the PoleH
Has India bakit her broonB
I canna tell that but whatever her fateA
I'll wager ye'll find it was shared by a skateA

There's a moral attached to my sangI
On greed ye should aye gie a froonB
When ye think o' the wife that was lost for a gateA
