O' a' the jobs that sweat the sarkA
Gie me a kintra doctor's warkB
Ye ca' awa' frae dawn till darkA
Whate'er the weather be OC

Some tinkler wife is in the straeD
Your boots are owre the taps wi' clayE
Through wadin' bog an' sklimmin' braeE
The besom for to see OC

Ye ken auld Jock o' WindybarnsF
The bull had near ca'ed oot his harnsF
His een were blinkin' fu' o' starnsF
An' doon they ran for me OC

There's ae guid wife we're weel acquaintG
Nae trouble's kent but what she's taen'tG
Yet aye she finds some new complaintG
O' which I hae the key OC
-
She's had some unco queer mishapsF
Wi' nervish wind and clean collapseF
An' naethin' does her guid but drapsF
Guid draps o' barley bree OC
-
I wouldna care a docken bladeG
Gin her accoont she ever paidG
But while she gi'es me a' her tradeG
There's ne'er a word o' fee OC
-
Then De'il hae a' thae girnin' wivesF
There's ne'er a bairn they hae that thrivesF
It's aye the kink hoast or the hivesF
That's gaun to gar them dee OC
-
Tak' ony job ye like avaH
Tak' trade the poopit or the lawI
But gin ye're wise ye'll haud awa'J
