Here In Bed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEF GHIJK LMBNOPL QRSITBBIU VNBWX

Here in bed behind a brick wallA
I can make order and meaningB
but how do I begin How do IC
emerge without panicD
to the sounds and massE
of people in the streetF
-
Are they human who stareG
as I pass by as if sizing me upH
for a mugging or a filthy propositionI
and am I human to have to beJ
frightened and on guardK
-
It's people I'm afraid of afraidL
of my own kind knowing their angersM
and schemes and violent needs knowingB
through knowledge of myselfN
that I have learned to resistO
but when I can't I have seenP
the havoc I have madeL
-
It's this knowing their desperate motivesQ
as I have known mine I'm afraid ofR
in them I hide upon a bedS
behind a brick wall and listenI
to engines roaring up and downT
the street and to voices shoutingB
to one another and find no meaningB
or order in them as there is noneI
in me when I am free of self restraintU
-
The bed is my victory over fearV
The bed returns me to my selfN
as I was young and dreamingB
of the beauty of the treesW
and faces of peopleX
