Rhyme Scheme: ABCDCEFFGHIJKGLMNO GPQGRSTUVWXYZA2B2C2Indeed indeed it is growing very sultry | A |
The indian feather pots are scrambling out of the room | B |
The slow voice of the tobacconist is like a circle | C |
Drawn on the floor in chalk and containing ants | D |
And indeed there is a shoe upon the table | C |
And indeed it is as regular as clockwork | E |
Demonstrating the variability of the weather | F |
Or denying the existence of manu altogether | F |
For after all why should love resemble a cushion | G |
Why should the stumbling block float up towards the ceiling | H |
And in our attic it is always said | I |
That this is a sombre country the wettest place on earth | J |
And then there is the problem of living to be considered | K |
With its vast pink parachutes full of underdone mutton | G |
Its tableaux of the archbishops dressed in their underwear | L |
Have you ever paused to consider why grass is green | M |
Yes greener at least it is said than the man in the moon | N |
Which is why | O |
- | |
The linen of flat countries basks in the tropical sun | G |
And the light of the stars is attracted by transparent flowers | P |
And at last is forgotten by both man and beast | Q |
By helmet and capstan and mesmerised nun | G |
For the bounds of my kingdom are truly unknown | R |
And its factories work all night long | S |
Producing the strongest canonical wastepaper baskets | T |
And ant eaters' skiing shoes | U |
Which follow the glistening murders as far as the pond | V |
And then light a magnificent bonfire of old rusty nails | W |
And indeed they are paid by the state for their crimes | X |
There is room for them all in the conjuror's musical box | Y |
There is still enough room for even the hardest of faces | Z |
For faces are needed to stick on the emperor's walls | A2 |
To roll down the stairs like a party of seafaring christians | B2 |
Whose hearts are on fire in the snow | C2 |
