Rough Country Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAAADEFGAAHIJKAALM

Give me a landscape made of obstaclesA
of steep hills and jutting glacial rockB
where the low running streams are quick to floodC
the grassy fields and bottomlandsA
A placeA
no engineers can master where the roadsA
must twist like tendrils up the mountainsideD
on narrow cliffs where boulders block the wayE
Where tall black trunks of lightning scalded pineF
push through the tangled woods to make a roostG
for hawks and swarming crowsA
And sharp inclinesA
where twisting through the thorn thick underbrushH
scratched and exhausted one turns suddenlyI
to find an unexpected waterfallJ
not half a mile from the nearest roadK
a spot so hard to reach that no one comesA
a hiding place a shrine for dragonfliesA
and nesting jays a sign that there is stillL
one piece of property that won't be ownedM
