Pentecost Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCD EFG HIJ KKL

i After the death of our son iA
-
Neither the sorrows of afternoon waiting in the silent houseB
Nor the night no sleep relieves when memoryC
Repeats its prosecutionD
-
Nor the morning's ache for dream's illusion nor any prayersE
Improvised to an unknowable godF
Can extinguish the flameG
-
We are not as we were Death has been our pentecostH
And our innocence consumed by these implacableI
Tongues of fireJ
-
Comfort me with stones Quench my thirst with sandK
I offer you this scarred and guilty handK
Until others mix our ashesL
