Pentecost Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCA DEF GHI JJK

After the death of our sonA
-
Neither the sorrows of afternoon waiting in the silent houseB
Nor the night no sleep relieves when memoryC
Repeats its prosecutionA
-
Nor the morning's ache for dream's illusion nor any prayersD
Improvised to an unknowable godE
Can extinguish the flameF
-
We are not as we were Death has been our pentecostG
And our innocence consumed by these implacableH
Tongues of fireI
-
Comfort me with stones Quench my thirst with sandJ
I offer you this scarred and guilty handJ
Until others mix our ashesK
