Do Not Expect Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEF GHIJAKLMNOPQ RST

Do not expect that if your book falls openA
to a certain page that any phraseB
you read will make a difference todayC
or that the voices you might overhearD
when the wind moves through the yellow greenE
and golden tent of autumn speak to youF
-
Things ripen or go dry Light plays on theG
dark surface of the lake Each afternoonH
your shadow walks beside you on the wallI
and the days stay long and heavy underneathJ
the distant rumor of the harvest OneA
more summer goneK
and one way or another you surviveL
dull or regretful never learning thatM
nothing is hidden in the obviousN
changes of the world that even the dimO
reflection of the sun on tall dry grassP
is more than you will ever understandQ
-
And only briefly thenR
you touch you see you press againstS
the surface of impenetrable thingsT
