| And sings the tune without the words | C |
| And never stops at all | D |

| And sweetest in the Gale is heard | E |
| And sore must be the storm | F |
| That could abash the little Bird | E |
| That kept so many warm | F |

| I ve heard it in the chillest land | G |
| And on the strangest Sea | H |
| Yet never in Extremity | H |
| It asked a crumb of me | H |
