JANE JaneA
Tall as a craneA
The morning light creaks down againB
-
Comb your cockscomb ragged hairC
Jane Jane come down the stairC
-
Each dull blunt wooden stalactiteD
Of rain creaks hardened by the lightD
-
Sounding like an overtoneE
From some lonely world unknownE
-
But the creaking empty lightD
Will never harden into sightD
-
Will never penetrate your brainA
With overtones like the blunt rainA
-
The light would show if it could hardenF
Eternities of kitchen gardenF
-
Cockscomb flowers that none will pluckG
And wooden flowers that 'gin to cluckG
-
In the kitchen you must lightD
Flames as staring red and whiteD
-
As carrots or as turnips shiningH
Where the cold dawn light lies whiningH
-
Cockscomb hair on the cold windD
Hangs limp turns the milk's weak mindD
-
Jane JaneA
Tall as a craneA
The morning light creaks down againB
