Blue Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIH JKKJ ELML NOPO OQO RSR ATA CEC UUU MCM

The earth again like a ship steams out of the dark sea overA
The edge of the blue and the sun stands up to see us glideB
Slowly into another day slowly the roverA
Vessel of darkness takes the rising tideB
-
I on the deck am startled by this dawn confrontingC
Me who am issued amazed from the darkness strippedD
And quailing here in the sunshine delivered from hauntingC
The night unsounded whereon our days are shippedD
-
Feeling myself undawning the day's light playing upon meE
I who am substance of shadow I all compactF
Of the stuff of the night finding myself all wronglyE
Among the crowds of things in the sunshine jostled and rackedF
-
I with the night on my lips I sigh with the silence of deathG
And what do I care though the very stones should cry me unreal though the cloudsH
Shine in conceit of substance upon me who am less than the rainI
Do I know the darkness within them What are they but shroudsH
-
The clouds go down the sky with a wealthy easeJ
Casting a shadow of scorn upon me for my share in death but IK
Hold my own in the midst of them darkling defyK
The whole of the day to extinguish the shadow I lift on the breezeJ
-
Yea though the very clouds have vantage over meE
Enjoying their glancing flight though my love is deadL
I still am not homeless here I've a tent by dayM
Of darkness where she sleeps on her perfect bedL
-
And I know the host the minute sparkling of darknessN
Which vibrates untouched and virile through the grandeur of nightO
But which when dawn crows challenge assaulting the vivid motesP
Of living darkness bursts fretfully and is brightO
-
Runs like a fretted arc lamp into lightO
Stirred by conflict to shining which elseQ
Were dark and whole with the nightO
-
Runs to a fret of speed like a racing wheelR
Which else were aslumber along with the wholeS
Of the dark swinging rhythmic instead of a reelR
-
Is chafed to anger bursts into rage like thunderA
Which else were a silent grasp that held the heavensT
Arrested beating thick with wonderA
-
Leaps like a fountain of blue sparks leapingC
In a jet from out of obscurityE
Which erst was darkness sleepingC
-
Runs into streams of bright blue dropsU
Water and stones and stars and myriadsU
Of twin blue eyes and cropsU
-
Of floury grain and all the hosts of dayM
All lovely hosts of ripples caused by frettingC
The Darkness into playM
