Many roses in the windA
Are tapping at the window sashB
A hawk is in the sky his wingsC
Slowly begin to plashB
-
The roses with the west wind rappingD
Are torn away and a splashB
Of red goes down the billowing airE
-
Still hangs the hawk with the whole sky movingD
Past him only a wing beat provingD
The will that holds him thereE
-
The daisies in the grass are bendingD
The hawk has dropped the wind is spendingD
All the roses and unendingD
Rustle of leaves washes out the rendingD
Cry of a birdF
-
A red rose goes on the wind AscendingD
The hawk his wind swept way is wendingD
Easily down the sky The daisies sendingD
Strange white signals seem intendingD
To show the place whence the scream was heardF
-
But oh my heart what birds are pipingD
A silver wind is hastily wipingD
The face of the youngest roseG
-
And oh my heart cease apprehendingD
The hawk is gone a rose is tappingD
The window sash as the west wind blowsG
-
Knock knock 'tis no more than a red rose rappingD
And fear is a plash of wingsC
What then if a scarlet rose goes flappingD
Down the bright grey ruin of thingsC
