OH the green glimmer of apples in the orchardA
Lamps in a wash of rainB
Oh the wet walk of my brown hen through the stack yardC
Oh tears on the window paneB
-
Nothing now will ripen the bright green applesD
Full of disappointment and of rainB
Brackish they will taste of tears when the yellow dapplesD
Of autumn tell the withered tale againE
-
All round the yard it is cluck my brown henE
Cluck and the rain wet wingsD
Cluck my marigold bird and againE
Cluck for your yellow darlingsD
-
For the grey rat found the gold thirteenF
Huddled away in the darkG
Flutter for a moment oh the beast is quick and keenF
Extinct one yellow fluffy sparkG
-
Once I had a lover bright like running waterH
Once his face was laughing like the skyI
Open like the sky looking down in all its laughterH
On the buttercups and the buttercups was II
-
What then is there hidden in the skirts of all the blossomJ
What is peeping from your wings oh mother henE
'Tis the sun who asks the question in a lovely haste for wisdomJ
What a lovely haste for wisdom is in menE
-
Yea but it is cruel when undressed is all the blossomJ
And her shift is lying white upon the floorK
That a grey one like a shadow like a rat a thief a rain stormL
Creeps upon her then and gathers in his storeK
-
Oh the grey garner that is full of half grown applesD
Oh the golden sparkles laid extinctM
And oh behind the cloud sheaves like yellow autumn dapplesD
Did you see the wicked sun that winkedM
