Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE AFGFHIJI KBCBLMAM ANGNOPAPThere's a path that leads to Nowhere | A |
In a meadow that I know | B |
Where an inland island rises | C |
And the stream is still and slow | B |
There it wanders under willows | D |
And beneath the silver green | E |
Of the birches' silent shadows | D |
Where the early violets lean | E |
- | |
Other pathways lead to Somewhere | A |
But the one I love so well | F |
Had no end and no beginning | G |
Just the beauty of the dell | F |
Just the windflowers and the lilies | H |
Yellow striped as adder's tongue | I |
Seem to satisfy my pathway | J |
As it winds their sweets among | I |
- | |
There I go to meet the Springtime | K |
When the meadow is aglow | B |
Marigolds amid the marshes | C |
And the stream is still and slow | B |
There I find my fair oasis | L |
And with care free feet I tread | M |
For the pathway leads to Nowhere | A |
And the blue is overhead | M |
- | |
All the ways that lead to Somewhere | A |
Echo with the hurrying feet | N |
Of the Struggling and the Striving | G |
But the way I find so sweet | N |
Bids me dream and bids me linger | O |
Joy and Beauty are its goal | P |
On the path that leads to Nowhere | A |
I have sometimes found my soul | P |
