When The Watchman Saw The Light Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFDGHIDJKLMMNJOJ PLLJ

Winter summer the watchman sat there looking outA
from the roof of Atreus' palaceB
Now he has good news to report He's seen the fire light upC
in the distance and he's happy besides the drudgery's over nowD
it's hard to sit there night and day in heat and coldE
waiting for a fire to showF
on the peak of ArachnaionD
Now the longed for signal has appeared Yet when happiness comesG
it brings less joy than one expectedH
But at least we've gained this much we've rid ourselvesI
of hope and expectation Many things will happenD
to the house of Atreus no need to be wiseJ
to guess this now the watchman has seen the lightK
So let's not exaggerateL
The light is good and those coming are goodM
their words and actions also goodM
And let's hope all goes wellN
But Argos can do without the house of AtreusJ
Ancient houses are not eternalO
Of course many people will have much to sayJ
We should listen But we won't be deceivedP
by words such as Indispensable Unique and GreatL
Someone else indispensable and unique and greatL
can always be found at a moment's noticeJ
