The Retinue Of Dionysos Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCDBEFGCBAHIBJKBLF MBN

Damon the craftsman none betterA
in the Peloponnese is giving the last touchesB
to his Retinue of DionysosB
carved in Parian marble the god leadingC
in divine glory with power in his strideD
after him Intemperance and beside IntemperanceB
Intoxication pours out the satyrs' wineE
from an amphora wreathed in ivyF
near them Sweetwine the delicateG
eyes half closed soporificC
and behind come the singersB
Tunemaker and Melody and RevellerA
the last holding the honored processional torchH
which he never lets die and then Ceremony so modestI
Damon carves all these And as he worksB
his thoughts turn now and thenJ
to the fee he's going to receiveK
from the king of SyracuseB
three talents a large sumL
Adding this to what he has alreadyF
he'll live grandly from now on like a rich manM
and think of it he'll be able to go into politicsB
he too in the Senate he too in the AgoraN
