The Horses Of Achilles Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJK DADLMNOPOJQ

When they saw Patroklos deadA
so brave and strong so youngB
the horses of Achilles began to weepC
their immortal nature was upset deeplyD
by this work of death they had to look atE
They reared their heads tossed their long manesF
beat the ground with their hooves and mournedG
Patroklos seeing him lifeless destroyedH
now mere flesh only his spirit goneI
defenseless without breathJ
turned back from life to the great NothingnessK
-
Zeus saw the tears of those immortal horses and felt sorryD
quot At the wedding of Peleus quot he saidA
quot I should not have acted so thoughtlesslyD
Better if we hadn't given you as a giftL
my unhappy horses What business did you have down thereM
among pathetic human beings the toys of fateN
You are free of death you will not get oldO
yet ephemeral disasters torment youP
Men have caught you up in their misery quotO
But it was for the eternal disaster of deathJ
that those two gallant horses shed their tearsQ
