The First Step Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDEFBEGAHIJKHLHMA KNAOJK

The young poet EvmenisA
complained one day to TheocritusA
I've been writing for two years nowB
and I've composed only one idyllC
It's my single completed workD
I see sadly that the ladderE
of Poetry is tall extremely tallF
and from this first step I'm standing on nowB
I'll never climb any higherE
Theocritus retorted Words like thatG
are improper blasphemousA
Just to be on the first stepH
should make you happy and proudI
To have reached this point is no small achievementJ
what you've done already is a wonderful thingK
Even this first stepH
is a long way above the ordinary worldL
To stand on this stepH
you must be in your own rightM
a member of the city of ideasA
And it's a hard unusual thingK
to be enrolled as a citizen of that cityN
Its councils are full of LegislatorsA
no charlatan can foolO
To have reached this point is no small achievementJ
what you've done already is a wonderful thingK
