The Battle Of Magnesia Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFEEGHEIEJKLEE

He's lost his old fire his courageA
Now his tired almost decrepit bodyB
will be his first concern And the rest of his life he'll spendC
without worrying So Philip says anywayD
Tonight he's playing a game with diceE
he's in a mood to amuse himselfF
Cover the table with roses What if AntiochosE
was defeated at Magnesia They sayE
the bulk of his brilliant army was totally crushedG
Maybe they're stretching it a bit it can't all be trueH
Let's hope so anyway Because though enemies they do belong to our raceE
But one let's hope so is enough Perhaps even too muchI
Of course Philip won't put off the festivitiesE
However much his life has worn him outJ
one blessing remains his memory is still intactK
He recalls the extent of their mourning in Syria the kind of sorrow they feltL
when Macedonia their motherland was smashed to piecesE
Let the banquet begin Slaves The music the lightsE
