Kleitos a likeable young manA
about twenty three years oldB
with a first class education a rare knowledge of GreekC
is seriously ill He caught the feverD
that reaped a harvest this year in AlexandriaE
The fever found him already worn out morallyF
by the pain of knowing that his friend a young actorD
had stopped loving and wanting himG
He's seriously ill and his parents are terribly worriedH
An old servant who brought him upI
is also full of fear for Kleitos' lifeJ
and in her panicK
she remembers an idol she used to worshipI
when she was young before she came there as a maidL
to the house of distinguished Christians and turned ChristianM
herselfN
She secretly brings some votive bread some wine and honeyF
and places them before the idol She chants whatever phrasesO
she remembers from old prayers odds and ends The ninnyF
doesn't realize that the black demon couldn't care lessP
whether a Christian gets well or notQ
