Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EF AGHF HIHIGGJ HFKLMNG

He sees the fields that still belong to himA
the wheat the animals the trees laden with fruitB
and beyond them his ancestral homeC
full of clothes costly furniture silverwareD
-
They'll take it all away from him O God they'll take it allE
away from him nowF
-
Would Kantakuzinos show pity for himA
if he went and fell at his feet They say he's mercifulG
very merciful But those around him And the armyH
Or should he fall down and plead before Lady IriniF
-
Fool that he was to get mixed up in Anna's partyH
If only Lord Andronikos had never married herI
Has she ever done anything good shown any humanityH
Even the Franks don't respect her any longerI
Her plans were ridiculous all her plotting farcicalG
While they were threatening everyone from ConstantinopleG
Kantakuzinos demolished them Lord John demolished themJ
-
And to think he'd planned to join Lord John's partyH
And he would have done it and would have been happy nowF
a great nobleman still his position secureK
if the bishop hadn't dissuaded him at the last momentL
with his imposing hieratic presenceM
his information bogus from beginning to endN
his promises and all his drivelG
